How To Attend & Other FAQs

*The festival is now over and the films are no longer available on our platforms. However, the Q&A sessions, forums, and workshops are still available on our Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you at the next edition of SeaShorts!

When and where will SeaShorts 2020 take place?

SeaShorts 2020 runs from 12 – 20 September, taking place entirely online through our website, and will be available for Southeast Asia.

How does the online edition work?

All films will be screened through our streaming platform on the festival website. Filmmaker Q&A sessions, workshops, and panel discussions will be livestreamed on the SeaShorts Facebook page. Masterclasses will be held exclusively via Zoom Webinar for festival passholders and will not be livestreamed.

How do I watch the films?

Purchase a festival pass by subscribing to our streaming platform here: festival.seashorts.org

Once you set up your account, you’ll be able to log in and watch all of the festival films on the platform, and you’ll receive details via email to all of the masterclasses, technical workshops, and forum sessions.

How does the pricing work?

Our streaming platform runs on Vimeo OTT, which is normally used for monthly subscription services. However, because SeaShorts is a timed event, you would be making a one-off payment to subscribe to the platform during the festival period only.

The standard price of one festival pass is $10 USD.

We will cancel all subscriptions automatically on 21 Sept 2020, after the festival period ends, so you will not be charged for more than one month.

If I change my mind, can I have a refund?

Unfortunately, pass sales are final and non-refundable.

When do ticket sales end?

Ticket sales end on the last day of the festival, 20th September 2020.

Are there any geographic restrictions to access the festival’s offerings?

In order to help our participating filmmakers preserve their films’ premiere status for other festivals, our film programmes must be restricted to Southeast Asia. The films will only be available in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and East Timor. Our masterclasses will also be restricted to Southeast Asia.

To those outside the region – our apologies, and thank you very much for your interest! We hope you can join us for the next edition.

Outside of the films, our Q&A sessions, forums, and workshops will be available for all, even outside Southeast Asia, on the Facebook page.

Are there any festival programmes that are free to the public?

You must purchase a festival pass in order to watch the films and participate in the masterclasses.

However, our technical workshops, Q&A sessions, and forum sessions will be livestreamed and archived onto our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/seashortsmy/

How long will the programmes be available online?

Our SeaShorts Competition films will only be available for 24hrs from the time they premiere on our streaming platform, and for another 24hrs on 19 September 2020 as a repeat screening. The competition winners will also be rescreened on 20 September 2020 as part of the Closing Ceremony.

Each non-competition programme has different availabilities, so please read carefully so you don’t miss out on a film you really want to see! All timings can be found on the respective programme pages.

I didn’t see the masterclass registration post and now all slots are full. Can I still register?

You may still register, but you will be put on a waitlist and we’ll contact you if a slot becomes available. But not to worry! We are also holding a screening of the recorded Masterclasses for any festival pass-holder who missed out on it due to unavailability or the limited allocated slots.

Where can I interact with other attendees throughout the festival?

You can join us on our SeaShorts Film Society Discord server to chat and hang out with other festival attendees! You can also interact with the community through our Facebook and Instagram.

Do you accept film submissions?

Our Call for Entries has already currently closed for the year, but keep an eye out on our website and social media for next year’s edition!
