Opening Programme: FRAGMENT
SeaShorts will open with Fragment, an omnibus film celebrating the strength and diversity of South-East Asian independent cinema. Made up of a collage of ten stories, each story distinctively embraces the other’s subjectivities through the collective sentiments of vulnerability and fortitude.
Fragment is commissioned by Asian Film Archive (AFA). The ten filmmakers are Kan Lume (Singapore), Wesley Leon Aroozoo (Singapore), Sherman Ong (Singapore/Malaysia), U-Wei Haji Saari (Malaysia), Tan Chui Mui (Malaysia), Lucky Kuswandi (Indonesia), Phan Dang Di (Vietnam), Kavich Neang (Cambodia), Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit (Thailand) and Lav Diaz (Philippines).

FROM SEA TO SEA: SEA Short Film Screening
5 programs showcasing more than 50 short films from 10 south east asian countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Thailand and Philippines.
FROM WAVE TO WAVE: Student Choice Programme
SeaShorts 2017 will also show case contemporary films made by film students in Malaysia while looking for new up-and coming young filmmakers to work with in the future!
9 local universities and colleges will be involved in this programme, such as Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Sunway University, Taylor’s college, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Han Jiang College, New Era University College, One World Han Xing College, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and Multimedia University.
Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia – Southeast Asian Programme
This Japan-born, Academy Awards® accredited festival is one of the largest film festivals in Asia.
Seigo Tono (Festival Director) and Shoko Takegasa (Programme Manager) of the film festival will curate a Southeast Asian Programme for SeaShorts 2017.
