“An eclectic mixed of stories and filmmaking approaches that reinforced my hope for young budding voices in Malaysia. These films, in my view, feature timely stories that genuinely capture fragmented moments relevant to us.” – Yow Chong Lee
“In Malaysia, and across the world, we are inundated with the doctrine of “innovation,” a term that offers little beyond decorating the word “new” with illusions of commerce. Malaysian film and television will only develop within a film culture that encourages people to make and watch independent films in addition to those in mainstream cinemas. The independent films here nominated for the Next New Wave award offer representations of everyday stories about people across Malaysia and Southeast Asia, and they also invite new hopes of what we might be able to see next.” -Charles Leary
