An actor, screenwriter, director and producer, Bront Palarae is born in Alor Star, Malaysia but he is a Southeast Asian actor / filmmaker.
He is of Malay, Punjabi-Pakistani and Thai ancestry. In Amir Muhammad’s 2007 Apa Khabar Orang Kampung(Village People Radio Show), Bront was the voice of the Thai radio soap opera actor.
In year 2017, Bront acted in Pengabdi Setan (Satan’s Slave), a remake of classic Indonesian horror film, his second collaboration with Joko Anwar after HBO Asia’s Halfworlds series. Pengabdi Setan became the highest-grossing film in Indonesia for 2017.
Palarae is also working on a film called THE LIES I TELL, which is to be his directorial debut.
20 short films from Southeast Asia will be in competition for SeaShorts Award, with Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz as the head the jury.
