20 short films from Southeast Asia will be in competition for SeaShorts Award, with Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz as the head the jury.
A grand master of world cinema, Lav Diaz is an inspiration for many independent filmmakers not only in Southeast Asia, but through out the world.
Especially known for making very long film, in fact, holding records of a few longest narrative films ever made, he established a special sense of time in his cinema. Sometimes he refer to it as his “Malay Aesthetic”. Often, Lav Diaz refers himself as Malay filmmaker.
When asked for a portrait photo, he just said, “Kindly pick my most embarrassing image from internet.”
We tried very hard, and it’s impossible. We only found this embarrassingly good looking portraits by JAKE VERZOSA, and another photo with no credit.
Please meet our head of Jury, Lav Diaz!
